Inflorescence Quilt Pattern Release from Brown Bird Designs Quilts

Oh my goodness!! Pinch me because I think I am dreaming!! It’s another pattern release day here at Brown Bird Designs and this one has been a long time coming. I came close to picking this design to release instead of Garden Star 2 when I worked with Citrus and Mint’s playful collection many years ago. Instead, I put this design back in my pocket and have been waiting for the perfect time and perfect line to bring it into the world. This is Inflorescence Quilt, and isn’t she lovely?? Grab yourself a cup of coffee and ...

Twilight Frenzy Quilt Pattern Release from Brown Bird Designs Quilts

Today is the big day!! We are two and a half weeks away from Halloween, which also happens to be my birthday. I didn’t plan on it. I definitely didn’t expect it. Actually, I was trying to get ahead for next year, but here we are in the midst of another pattern release. This pattern is something that I have had in my Halloween pattern file for years. Most of the patterns in there are bat related. Looking back over the years, I can see that I am a little obsessed. Click here to see a deep dive ...

Mirabelle in Wild Blooms

Can you spot Mirabelle

I used the collection Wild Blooms, which should be available in quilt stores now.  It is a gorgeous collection with a complete range of values from light to dark, providing the entire spectrum of shades to create a gorgeous quilt.

I don't say this for every collection but I love every fabric in the Wild Blooms collection!!! I used Wild Blooms to make Mardi Gras Magic and Wednesday. I am sure I will be making more :-)

Granny Long Legs from Sew Preeti Quilts

Once upon a time, very long ago, when I was a brand new quilter, I came across the Disappearing 9-Patch Quilt Pattern. Sewing a 9-patch block and then cutting it into quarters for FOUR blocks was mind-blowing.

Sewing first and cutting later was truly fascinating. It also meant less sewing, easier piecing and improved accuracy. This was a Win, Win, Win!!! Except for one small problem - it created a mindset. I am forever looking to simplify patterns such that I sew first and cut later.

Meet Granny Long Legs - completely strip-pieced.

A Queen-sized Quilt

Are you smiling at the name ...

Bloom : Scrap Mixology Module #4 from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

For a few months now, I have been sharing a number of scrappy basket blocks that I have been making.  Today I am ready to start sharing the finished quilts.  The blocks were for my fourth module of my Scrap Mixology Series.  This one I am calling Bloom.

For the first quilt I made, I used a bunch of Kaffe Fassett scraps.  I loved how the bright vibrant colors looked in the blocks.  When the blocks are placed on point, they look like baskets full of blooms.

So that is how I laid them out for this first quilt design ...

Strawberry Lemonade from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Or, it can be called Kissing Pinwheels.  I think of both when I think of this quilt.

I had a bunch of trimmed or "bonus" triangles in blacks and whites so I decided to turn them into tiny pinwheels.  I knew they would be perfect for one of my Scrap Mixology designs.  Then I pulled one of my favorite color combinations of scraps.

There are so many ways to lay out these blocks - but I loved this one where the pinwheels "kiss".

Now this quilt just needs a sweet little girl to gift it too!

Even though I have been ...

Scrap Mixology : Two Bits from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Behind the scenes, I have been working diligently to complete more of my newest pattern series and their supporting quilts.

Today I am ready to announce my second Scrap Mixology module - Two Bits.

This module is to help you turn some of your scrappy strings into some fun and colorful quilts.
You might remember this RSC quilt I finished in 2019.
This quilt was the inspiration for this pattern sheet.

The Scrap Mixology pattern series all follow the same format.  They are designed to help you sew up your scraps so don't expect to find yardage requirements (not that ...

Scrap Mixology : Well Suited from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Back in late 2019, I started working on my goal of writing a book.  I decided to spend tons of hours secretly sewing and putting together ten block designs for a book proposal.  I held myself to the goal of sending it off for review by the end of March.

Well....crap!

So much for well laid plans.  I still sent it off even though businesses were not sure what the future would look like and I waited for over 5 long months for them to make a final decision on it.  It was not the best book to release ...

Dance Around the World- A Charity Quilt Pattern from Tartankiwi

I am really pleased to introduce you to my latest foundation paper pieced pattern. Dance Around the World is a new quilt block which holds a special place in my heart. There were many thought and emotions running round in my head when I designed and worked on this design and even though it was actually designed some months ago, those themes are even more relevant now than they were then.

Dance Around the World was designed to illustrate friendship, and support for people all around the world. It represents females (in my mind quilters, but it could be any ...
